Genealogy and Local History Resources

The Kenosha County Genealogical Society is organized for the purpose of gathering together any individuals interested in genealogy and local history, to help its membership in tracing their lineage through regular and special meetings and workshops, and to keep it informed through various media.

Kenosha County Historical Society is a campus of two buildings, the Kenosha History Center and The Southport Light Station. The Kenosha History Center houses the main offices, three exhibit galleries, the gift shop and our Archives. The adjacent Southport Light Station features the fourth gallery.

Kenosha Public Library has numerous resources for researchers including newspapers, directories, and a Kenosha clippings file of selectively chosen, historically significant newspaper articles and publications.

The Racine Heritage Museum's Research Center provides the community with a wealth of information spanning from the 1830's to the present. Archive staff members are available during hours of operation to answer questions and guide you in your research.

Racine Public Library has several resources for researchers including a subject file of Racine newspaper clippings, city directories, and local newspapers on microfilm.

The Wisconsin State Genealogical Society (WSGS) is a statewide genealogical organization. Founded in 1939, WSGS now has members both within and outside of Wisconsin.
