How to Library While Social Distancing

Pickup Options

There are several options to get materials from the Parkside Library:

  • Holds: request materials via Library Search and pick them up at the library's main desk. You'll get an email when items are ready, usually within 24 hours.
  • Curbside Pickup: request materials via Library Search and pick them up in the RITA circle. See more details about this service below.
  • Browse In Person: check out materials at the library's desk.

Curbside Pickup

To facilitate a curbside pick-up:

  1. Faculty, students, and staff may request items from Parkside and other UW libraries through Library Search. Search for items from the home page
  2. Sign in to your account (your UWP login), then choose Local Request or UW Request under Request Options.
  3. Make sure your information is correct and submit the request!

Once we have your item(s), you will receive two emails. One will be a system-generated message stating that your item is ready. The other will direct you to a questionnaire to determine your best pick-up time. The only way you’ll be able to get your items is by letting us know when to meet you, so please fill out this form.

Curbside pick-up will take place at the RITA on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:00am–12:00pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:00–3:00pm, and Fridays from 10:00am–12:00pm.

Please come to the RITA circle drive only at your assigned time. Make sure to bring a picture ID (Ranger Card or Driver’s License). A library staff member will be waiting with your items.

Please know:

  1. This service is only available to UW-Parkside faculty, staff, and students.
  2. We will process your request as soon as possible, but due to limited on-site staffing and statewide shuttle routes, there may be delays. items from other UW libraries take about 7 business days to arrive, including a 4-day quarantine.

If you have any questions about this service, please contact the Access Services department at circulationlib@uwp.edu.

Library FAQs

Is the library open?
Yes! Please be patient as we put the finishing touches on the remodeled areas of L1. The library is open to current students, faculty, and staff. Study rooms are not available (but you can meet with your group online), and seating is limited to promote distancing. If you need a place to attend online classes or study, this Ranger Restart page has a list of available classrooms.

Community borrowers and unapproved visitors may not visit the Parkside campus at this time.

What are the library hours?

Look at our About page for hours.

Can librarians still help me with research?
Absolutely! Librarians will have limited on-campus availability during Spring semester, but there are many ways to work with a librarian remotely:

Can I borrow a laptop or wifi hotspot? What if I'm on campus and need to print or use a computer?
The library loans laptops for up to 8 hours and hotspots (with laptops) for 3 days. Contact the CTS Tech Bar if you need to borrow technology long-term: servicedesk@uwp.edu or 262-595-2444.

Printers are now near the Art in the Library area on L1, and the scanner and copier are around the corner from the main desk. Desktop computers are available on L1, including in the new classroom L140.

These computer labs are also open: Molinaro 115, 117, 124, D112; Greenquist D134; and RITA 123 (Macs), SAC Pool Overlook Lounge.

Can I borrow books or other materials?
Of course! Please see the information about pickup options above. You can pick up holds at library or via Curbside pickup.

How do I return my books?
The library book drop is now in the RITA lobby; you can return materials there or in the book drops near the library entrance.

I normally get articles very quickly through interlibrary loan, and now they’re taking much longer or getting canceled. Why?
If the article is only available in print format, your request may be canceled because many libraries are closed, and staff are not scanning. Contact a librarian for help finding alternative resources.
